Main Festivities and Festivals |
December, January:
Christmas performances with typical food tasting, in some boroughs of the historical centre of the city and in some towns of the province. Particularly attractive are the living mangers in Sutera and Caltabellotta
February:
In the first decade of the month, festival of the flowered almond tree and folk festival with the exhibition of folk ensembles from all over the world.
March, April:
Easter arches in San Biagio Platani: spectacular bread decorations, citruses and bay. For the Easter festivity, when a pleasant spring warmth invades the territory of the province, a fascinating story is told with images from a very small village some kilometres away from Agrigento. Along the roads of the town, the countrymen, distinguished in two confraternities, raise widths constructions and arch made to of fresh baked bread enriched with sacred images. A spectacular homage to bread, an extraordinary and touching pray.

May:
May: Festivity of the “Tataratà”: In Casteltermini, where takes place a rich procession with knights and amazons with XVII century customs and an Arabic dance-battle.
July:
From the first to the second Sunday of July, Festivity of San Calogero in Agrigento: A very colorful festivity of the most popular saint of the city. Some prayers go up dangerously at the top of the saint wagon in order to kiss him, while the crowd offers bread to him. A demonstration of extraordinary mysticism.
Agust:
The evening, along the “Via Atenea”, restaurants, wine cellars and bars put out their small tables and serve delicatessens, and drinks to you. Some stores are open. Sometimes short musical shows are organized so the street gather a lot of people. The Mid-August eve (15th August), the beaches of the Agrigento shoreline are lighted up by spectacular bonfires made by young people who gather around them in order to pass all the night in joy.
